People, Planet, Profit, Pizza at THE PIG-at Combe

Outdoor gathering under a canopy with string lights in front of a stone building

In celebration of B Corp Month, and to get out and meet with our local B Corp community, we were lucky to join other B Corps and businesses at The Pig in Combe for cocktails and pizza in the sunshine.

The B Corp hotel’s sustainability manager, Kate Harvey, hosted a panel of B Corp businesses including Greg Parsons from organic cheesemaker, Sharpham Cheese, Ivo Devereux from Sapling vodka and Jacqueline Gunn from B Lab.

Kate led the Q and A with the panel members covering what it means to be a B Corp, the benefits it provides, why the businesses have done it and what’s their favourite things about being a B Corp.

The hot topic of the debate was especially the new standards and B Impact certification procedure, including why any businesses, or those re-certifing, will now be independently audited to further improve integrity of the qualification.

Additionally new areas of focus for certification will include a stronger emphasis on:
•    Fair Work for Fair Pay
•    Justice, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI)

Community was a big benefit that people cited - meeting and collaborating with like-minded people - while the B Corp logo also provides a stamp of due diligence for others to understand that B Corp companies are committed to a new way of doing business for good.

We met some brilliant people doing brilliant business in the right way and special thanks to The Pig at Combe for the amazing hospitality, Sharpham Cheese for the cheese and Pentire for the refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails.
